TRAINING MODULES

Training modules may be provided in half day workshops or streamlined to be presented in a 1.5 hour introductory session.
Programs may choose to have a half day, full day or two day workshop that includes 2 or four of the following sessions per day. Training modules are individually tailored for the organization, the nature of the program(s) and the audience i.e. Board, senior staff, front-line staff, stakeholders or a combination.

Program Specific Orientation to CAC Accreditation

A great tool for those organizations already committed to the accreditation process through CAC. This orientation is tailored to the specific organization and adapted for all levels of staffing within programs.
Program orientation includes an overview of CAC accreditation processes, expectations of CAC and the program throughout the process, steps involved with the self-study, preparation for the on-site peer review i.e. file review, interview questions etc and maintaining the structures and processes during the years between peer reviews.
This is a fantastic opportunity for organizations to have all of their questions answered in a confidential forum.

Leadership & Governance

This specific module speaks to standards in relation to Leadership & Governance and the translation of the expectations into practice within organizations and programs. While some aspects of leadership & governance differ between profit and non-profit organizations, there are some aspects that are common across all programs i.e. clear direction, planning and community involvement.

Policy Development

This is a fantastic module for newer organizations and/or programs with policies written to older editions of standards. This module will assist in identifying the key components of great policies, provide direction for creating effective policies that are clear and understood by all employees and/or volunteers and how to effectively implement policies into practice.

Information Management

With new, ever evolving technologies, closer scrutiny and shifting expectations about how information is used and protected, the management of confidential information is a growing area of concern.
This module supports organizations with developing strategies that are in accordance with standards to manage information - both client and employee related. This session offers programs time effective and comprehensive strategies to gather, maintain and manage information while maintaining focus on their commitment to children, youth and families.

Evaluation & Quality Improvement

“Outcomes”, “evaluation” and “quality improvement” are words that can strike fear in even the most experienced of organizations. Evaluation is inherent in quality improvement which is the continuous cycle of setting goals, evaluating performance changing strategies and evaluating impact.
While all programs constantly examine their performance, this module is designed to have that process become more conscious and purposeful. CAC offers an overview of the intent and meaning of the concepts and some practical ways to create and maintain the processes to gather outcomes, analyse data, identify trends and develop corrective plans. CAC works with the organization to create and/or fine-tune tools, processes and/or the system used to ensure that they are working effectively to achieve “best practices”.

Ethics

Every organization and program, at one time or another, will face ethical dilemmas – it is the nature of the human services field. This module will assist organizations in obtaining a more comprehensive understanding of ethical issues, standards related to the management of ethical issues, and how to address such concerns through policies and procedures.

Rights

Inherent to every Canadian are basic and fundamental rights. This module will demonstrate how rights are translated into standards, policy and practice to ensure that children, youth and families are aware of and supported in the pursuit of their rights. Furthermore, this session is a fantastic opportunity to understand and renew our passion for protecting, advocating for and ensuring that the people we serve have the best of opportunities for success and growth.

Health & Safety

The fundamental principle behind the Health and Safety standards is to protect the emotional, physical, cultural, spiritual, and medical needs of each and every individual requiring service. CAC standards are reflective of the level of commitment, integrity and compassion dedicated to those who are unable to meet their own needs for a variety of reasons. This module allows programs to understand the fundamental reasons that the standards were created, the manner in which they can be incorporated into a program and the risks faced by organizations should proper care and attention not be paid.

Administration & Management

The Administration and Management module addresses standards integral to the personnel processes required for an organization to thrive and excel. This module is very beneficial to new programs setting up their processes and to well-established organizations as a guide for ensuring programs is well managed, with employees, contractors, students and volunteers who are skilled, well trained and supported.

Service Delivery

Every program has committed to their “funders” that they have the ability to create positive change in the persons served by their organization. Standards related to this area reflect the client’s need to be an informed, active participant in planning, goal setting and the change process. This module addresses service delivery from all aspects – person served, program, organization and funder.

Working within a Cultural Community

Every person “has” and is entitled to their culture. Service providers have a responsibility to be respectful of that culture and ensure that services are provided in such a manner that cultural traditions, expectations and experiences are viewed as integral to a person’s identity. Standards related to Aboriginal persons and those of unique cultures remind service providers that communities play a valuable role in bringing healing to people.
This module will support organizations in understanding the history behind the creation of culturally related standards, the commitment of CAC to cultural respect and sensitivity, and methods to ensure that organizations are offering the optimal services within the boundaries of cultural belief systems.
