2010 Canadian Accreditation Council of Human Services
The accreditation process is a partnership between CAC and the organization with programs undergoing the peer review process.
It is the intent of CAC to have the accreditation process be experienced, by the program undergoing accreditation, as simple, clear, useful and meaningful.
The CORE Support staff positions are what make CAC unique among accrediting bodies.
CORE Support staff provide on-going support and consultation to:
People interpreting the meaning, intent and/or implementation of standards;
Program staff preparing for an accreditation process and
Members of peer review teams;
The following resources are used by CAC to clarity roles, define expectations, articulate processes and establish the protocols for reporting.
To this end, we have created resources, forms and documents that are part of the CAC accreditation process. These resources have been separated out into the following sections:
The CAC CORE Support staff person is a member of the peer review team and is present during the pre and on-site peer reviews of the program. On-site during peer reviews, the CAC staff person is in an administrative role and is NOT the decision-maker. The team as a whole will make decisions as to the findings of the team.

Pre-site Review of Documents and Practice
The longest part of the accreditation process is the self-evaluation of the program against the standards. Are the policies and practices within the program congruent with the standards?
The pre-site checklist is a correlation of program policy and procedures to the Standards and is used by the peer review team to assess the compliance of the program’s policy to CAC Standards.
Programs update information and report on their on-going compliance to CAC standards on an annual basis and when there are exceptional circumstances.
