2011 EDITION OF ADULT STANDARDS

In continuing with our mission of ensuring human service organizations focus on service excellence, we have spent the past two years creating standards that apply to Adult Based Programs. The intent of having these standards and an accreditation process is to assist organizations in becoming better service providers by supporting opportunities to learn and adapt. CAC’s goal is to enhance service delivery through an increased focus on structure, internal processes, outcome measurements and establish quality assurance while providing programs with a strong foundation from which to build, and provide organizations with both professional and public recognition for their achievements.

The release of the 2011 Edition of Adult Standards marks a new chapter for CAC. While using our established framework and process, we have produced a new set of standards that address the specialized needs of Adult Based Programs. The decision to create the two separate volumes of standards was to improve clarity and to provide a better fit for the evaluation of services. Based on research and stakeholder consultation, the following Program Specific Designations have been created within the 2011 Edition of Adult Standards:

Administrative Programs Drive Programs
Community Wellness Programs Outreach Programs
Mentor Programs Intervention Programs
Homemaker Programs Home Care Programs
Shelter Programs Supported Independent Living Programs
Living with Disabilities Support Programs Respite Care Programs
Group Living Programs Basic Living Support Programs
Assisted Living Support Programs

The 2011 Edition of Adult Standards also contains Enhanced Designations for Adult Programs, including:

Aboriginal or Culturally Specific Programs Addiction Programs
Specialized Needs Programs Intensive Treatment Programs
Employment Programs Mental Health Programs

For your convenience, we have also included a comparison chart of the Generic Standards for the 2011 Adult Standards to the 2008 Edition of Child, Youth and Family Standards with 2010 Revisions and the 2011 Edition of Child, Youth and Family Standards for those organizations that will be using both manuals. Please refer to Appendix B for the complete comparison.

The 2011 Edition of Adult Standards will be in effect immediately. Organizations wishing to accredit their programs using the 2011 Edition of Adult Standards will submit an application to CAC indicating that they will be using the 2011 Edition of Adult Standards. In order to introduce the new Adult Standards, we will be providing information sessions for Organizations, Reviewers and Team Leads in October and November of 2011. These sessions will review the new standards as well as changes to the current 2011 Edition of Child, Youth and Family Standards and changes to the process. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask us any questions you may have about the Adult Standards. More information about these sessions will be available in September, so please continue to check our website and your email for updates.
